Dr. Aidan O'Sullivan
I am an Associate Professor in Energy and AI at the UCL Energy Institute, where I lead the Energy Systems and AI Lab. My research group is focused on the application of AI to critical problems in the energy system.
At UCL, I established the MSc Programme in Energy Systems and Data Analytics in 2018, a first-of-its-kind programme training students to address the digital skills gap in the energy industry. I am also a founder and entrepreneur and have successfully spun out research from my lab into a venture-backed startup, which was the first to receive backing from both UCL and Cambridge University investment funds.
I hold a PhD from the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London, an MSc in Bio-Engineering, and a Bachelor’s in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University College Cork. Before joining UCL I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in machine learning at MIT in the Intelligent Transport Systems Lab and the Singapore MIT Alliance for Research and Technology.
I am part of the UNESCO International Research Centre on AI programme in AI and climate. I am the Joint Programme representative on digitalisation for the UK to the European Energy Research Alliance.
